Why Michelle Pfeiffer Missed 'Scarface' Reunion With Al Pacino at 2024 Oscars

Al Pacino appeared solo to present the award for Best Picture during the Academy Awards on Sunday.

It was almost a Scarface reunion at the 96th Academy Awards! Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer were both previously announced as presenters on Hollywood's biggest night, but the latter was a no-show during Sunday's prestigious awards ceremony.

ET has learned that there was a matter that came up early last week that kept Pfeiffer on the East Coast and unable to attend the Oscars.

In her stead, the 83-year-old actor hit the stage solo as he presented the award for Best Picture to Oppenheimer.

On a night filled with iconic film reunions -- including TwinsArnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVitoBeetlejuice's Michael Keaton and Catherine O'Hara and more -- Pacino was introduced not as the star of Scarface, which just reached its 40th anniversary in December, but of The Godfather. As Pacino reached the microphone, cameras cut to Robert De Niro in the audience.

The 65-year-old actress, meanwhile, was last seen on the red carpet at the Environmental Media Association Awards Gala in January. Pfeiffer looked stunning in an all-white pantsuit for the occasion.

Pacino starred as Tony Montana in the iconic 1983 crime drama with Pfeiffer playing his wife, Elvira Hancock. The film, written by Oliver Stone and directed by Brian De Palma, featured a cast that also included Steven Bauer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Robert Loggia and F. Murray Abraham, among others.
