Second time's a charm! Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom will be heading down the aisle. The two got engaged on Valentine's Day 2019 after three years of dating on-and-off. Relive their cutest moments, highest highs and a couple of relationship woes.
The two celebrated Orlando's manager's birthday with an intimate dinner that also included Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman. Then a couple of weeks later, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was one of the A-list stars who stepped out when Katy hosted The Creators Party, a pre- GRAMMYs bash presented by Spotify. Shortly after both events, ET spoke with Jason at the Hollywood premiere of his animated film, Zootopia. Though he remained coy, the Game Night star did say that Orlando and Katy "are fun" together. By the end of the month, the new couple was spending even more time together, including taking a romantic trip to Hawaii.
March was a busy time for these lovebirds! First, Orlando supported Katy when she performed at a Hillary Clinton fundraiser. They were then caught in a major makeup session on a beach in Malibu and on a Disneyland date. One source told ET that the pair rode Small World, Space Mountain and snacked on churros together at the Happiest Place on Earth, while another said they were showing major PDA, kissing and holding hands for much of the day.
Katy and Orlando kind of, sort of made their red carpet debut at the launch of the Parker Institute for Cancer Research on April 13 -- if you're OK with the fact that they walked into the gala separately. (They both looked fabulous, though!) Just a few days later, they weren't afraid to pack on the PDA at the annual Coachella music festival in Indio, California, even kissing during The Pecks set.
Early May 2016
Photos came out on TMZ that supposedly showed Selena Gomez cozying up to Orlando at an after-party for the "Wolves" singer's Las Vegas concert. While the pics of the two stars -- who were longtime friends and had sparked romance rumors in the past -- appeared a bit suspect, a source told ET that "there was leg touching, hugging, talking closely, but no one saw kissing. They definitely did not leave together." Another source added that Selena and Orlando "have the same manager and are close friends. Selena is also very friendly and touchy-feely. Katy and Orlando are very in love and doing great." Katy later tweeted a link to an article on Orlando's efforts as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, telling fans "instead of giving energy and eyeballs to dumb conspiracy, check out how cool this is." Selena showed her support a couple of hours later, retweeting the California gurl and adding, "#killemwithkindness -one day they'll get it lol."
Late May 2016
And if fans needed further proof that there was no trouble in paradise, Katy and Orlando were seen kissing on a yacht in Cannes, France, and attended amfAR's 23rd Cinema Against AIDS Gala on May 19, though they were seated at separate tables. But it was when the pair made things Instagram official during that European trip that their fans truly swooned. After the fundraiser, Katy shared a cute pic of the pair lying across steps in Cannes with the punny caption, "we cannes't."
No bad blood here! Katy hung out with Orlando's ex-wife, Miranda Kerr, at the Moschino Spring/Summer 17 runway show during the MADE LA at the L.A. Live event deck in Los Angeles. The Australian model opened the show, while Katy was on hand to support her BFF, Moschino designer Jeremy Scott. One month later, Miranda would announce her engagement to Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel. (Orlando and Miranda share a son, Flynn, while Katy was also previously married. Her relationship to comedian Russell Brand ended in 2011 after 14 months of marriage.)
Orlando didn't just cheer Katy on as she spoke on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia -- he even helped the "Swish Swish" singer write her speech!
How European! The cute couple took a trip to Italy with Katy's then-pregnant sister and her brother-in-law in August, where those now-infamous pics of Orlando paddleboarding completely nude were shot. In some much safer-for-work moments, he and Katy were also seen kissing and cuddling throughout Sardinia. However, the "I Kissed a Girl" singer didn't let Orlando have all the bare booty fun in Europe. A few days later, she shared a cheeky pic during a bike ride in France.
She's found her Prince Charming! During a fun-filled day at Shanghai's Disneyland Park, Katy took to Instagram to show off the couple's matching Mickey and Minnie socks, writing, "When you find your prince," along with two heart emojis.
The "Rise" singer was completely unrecognizable at Kate Hudson's annual star-studded Halloween bash in Los Angeles, epically dressed as Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. And if that weren't amazing enough, Orlando joined in on the political fun, pulling out all the stops with his Donald Trump costume, which consisted of a bright orange wig and "Make America Great Again" hat. Just a couple of days later, the English actor helped his girlfriend celebrate her birthday at an epic sock hop-themed bash.
The duo sparked engagement rumors when Katy was spotted with a massive ring on that finger during a date night in New York City. The next night, the "Dark Horse" singer gushed to ET about her beau at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball, saying, "Everyone is a teacher in a relationship, that's how I see it now. We've taught each other a lot."
Katy and Orlando spread some holiday cheer together, dressing as Mr. and Mrs. Claus to visit patients at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
The pop star threw her beau a surprise 40th birthday party, which included an unexpected visit from Orlando's mom, Sonia Copeland Bloom. Katy shared a video to her Instagram Story of the British actor blowing out candles on a two-tier owl cake while surrounded by family and friends in Palm Springs, California.
Fans were shocked when Katy and Orlando announced via their reps on Feb. 28 that they were "taking respectful, loving space at this time." The pair were photographed just one week earlier at Vanity Fair Oscars party. The blonde beauty also tweeted about the breakup, writing, "HOW BOUT A NEW WAY OF THINKING FOR 2017!? U can still b friends & love ur former partners! No one's a victim or a villain, get a life y'all!"
Two months later, the exes crossed paths at a birthday party for a mutual friend.
August and September 2017
Shortly after James Corden convinced Katy to rank how her exes were in bed, the singer was spotted getting pretty cozy with Orlando at Ed Sheeran's Los Angeles concert in August. The two were covered up in jackets and baseball caps during the show, but that didn't stop fans from recognizing the pair. In fact, an eyewitness told ET that "Orlando put his arm around Katy's waist several times, and at one point, she sat on his lap."
The following month, the pop star was spotted paddleboarding over Labor Day weekend with her ex-boyfriend, according to Celebrity WotNot, which shared a photo of the two. An eyewitness told ET at the time, They were at the beach in Santa Barbara near the Four Seasons on Sunday morning. It was just the two of them. They did not show PDA."
February and March 2018
In February, a source told ET that Katy and Orlando weren't just "hooking up" again, but rather spending some time away from the public eye to work on building a stronger relationship together. "The time they spend together alone is a way for them to build a new healthy relationship that is not under the eyes of their fans and the world," the source said. "They both live very busy lives and have carefully made a plan to give their love a second chance." In fact, according to the source, Katy didn't bring Orlando to her brother, David's, wedding earlier in the month -- where she caught the bouquet -- in order to not bring attention to their relationship. A few weeks later, Katy was recorded chatting with a fan while rocking a onesie with Orlando's face on it, and she swooned when Orlando posted a #TBT of his washboard abs.
ET caught up with the Witness singer, along with her American Idol co-judges, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, at the reality singing competition's first live elimination show, where she may have hinted that she and Orlando were back on. During the discussion, the topic of dating came up, including whether the judges would ever date a contestant. "Yes, Katy's like that," Luke teased. "She totally could." At that point, Katy popped in with what seemed like a clue about her current love life, saying, "No, I'm sorry I have been spoken for and speak for myself," before adding, "And I'm very happy!"
Days later, the "Rise Up" singer, Orlando, and Katy's mom, Mary Hudson, headed to Rome, Italy, where they all met Pope Francis. "Happy Saturday, everyone. I’m here in Rome at the Vatican about to speak on meditation,” she told her fans on Instagram at the time, showing off her mama and then panning the camera over to her "darling," Orlando.
Katy confirmed that she was "not single" during the American Idol finale. One week later, she hopped on a plane to London to support Orlando in the West End revival of Tracy Letts' play, Kill Joe, just one night before she had to be in Amsterdam to continue her Witness tour.
Around that time, a source told ET that the two were very much in love and working incredibly hard to keep the intimate details of their relationship out of the public eye now that they were back on. "They both agreed that one of the main reasons for their last split was the pressures of constantly being in the public eye and not taking the time alone to just be together,” the source claimed. "Katy wants to make sure they are seeing each other as much as possible despite both having busy careers, so she meets with Orlando wherever he is working and she expects the same from him. They have an understanding now of each other and what will make this work."
Hot mama! Katy rocked a sexy lingerie look during a date night following one of Orlando's Killer Joe performances in London. The couple was hard to miss while leaving Annabel’s club, as the shoe designer was wearing a bright pink Alice + Olivia lingerie-style slip dress with black lace trim, a leather cap, several necklaces and giant gold hoop earrings, while Orlando was more casual in a button-down black shirt, jeans and a baseball cap. Katy made several trips to London to see Orlando in between stops on her Witness tour.
The pair officially made their red carpet debut as a couple (yes, finally posing together!) at the 2018 Gala for the Global Ocean at the Opera of Monte-Carlo in Monaco. At the time, a source told ET that Katy and Orlando's relationship had "continued to blossom" due to the fact that they had "dedicated themselves" to spending quality alone time together. "It truly was the best decision they ever made because it reminded them how much they love each other," the source said. "Keeping their relationship a secret while they worked on their love for one another has completely turned things around for them."
The adorable duo made another public appearance in mid-October at the 2018 amfAR Gala in Beverly Hills, California, where Katy was honored for her support of The Foundation of AIDS research. A couple of weeks later, the American Idol judge slipped into a skintight dress for a dinner date to celebrate her 34th birthday.
The "Roar" singer wished her beau a happy birthday with a super sweet snapshot of the Pirates of the Caribbean star rocking a "Woman Power" sweatshirt and giving a shaka hand sign. "Happiest 42nd birthday to the kindest and cutest man I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with," she wrote, reminding fans around the world that her handsome boyfriend is immune to the effects of human aging.
Wedding bells are in their future! Katy and Orlando got engaged on Valentine's Day! Orlando proposed with a stunning flower ring, and a ton of heart-shaped balloons could be seen above their heads in the selfie Katy shared to Instagram of the pair's big news.
They're expecting! Perry revealed that she's expecting her first child in her new music video for "Never Worn White," in which a closing shot showed her cradling her bare baby bump. She is due in the summer of 2020. This will be the second child for Bloom, who shares a son, Flynn, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
A couple of days after that big announcement, ET learned that though they've been engaged for over a year, Perry and Bloom are postponing the nuptials they had planned in Japan for later in the year due to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak. They. will not be tying the knot until 2021.
A new life has bloomed for the engaged couple! The pair welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Daisy Dove. The news was first shared by UNICEF on Aug. 27; the organization posted the announcement and their congratulations for the couple. "Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom! We are honoured to introduce Goodwill Ambassadors @KatyPerry and Orlando Bloom's new bundle of joy," their post read, alongside a photo of the new parents holding their baby's tiny hand. The pair also shared a statement, through UNICEF, about welcoming their little girl, explaining, "We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter.” Bloom also reposted UNICEF's announcement to his own Instagram, and a rep for Perry confirmed the news of their new bundle of joy to ET.
